I will count this as TWO concert reports for both Term 1 and Term 2 if you participate!! If there are any money constraints, please see me. Scholarships for this are available.

2016 Honor Choir

2106 Girls’ Honor Choir – ACDA Utah

ACDA Utah is very excited to announce our second annual state conference!!! It will be held October 21-22, 2016** at the University of Utah.

As part of the state conference, we are having a Girls Honor Choir! This Honor Choir will be an SSA choir consisting of females in grades 6-12. We are hoping that the start of the school year will provide an excellent opportunity to get the girls “pumped up” and return to their respective programs with renewed passion and excitement for singing.

We have secured a fantastic clinician, and she has worked successfully with girls of middle school, high school, and university ages. Her name is Dr. Sharon Paul and she comes to us from the University of Oregon. She is a wonderful musician!

Below is all the information you need to know about Honor Choir and how to have your girls participate. We need your help in order to make this event successful!! And, we have tried to make things simple in the audition process so that singers and teachers don’t have to do a lot of prep work. We are just asking girls to sing America (My Country ‘tis of Thee), along with the sound recording provided here in the key that will work best for their voice part.

Submitting an Audition Recording

• A complete audition submission includes the following:
  • completion of the online form,
  • uploading the mp3 file,
  • and a $10 audition fee.
• Singers must submit an auditioned recording of America, accompanied in the appropriate key (Ab for Sopranos, D for altos). Use the accompaniment files, or your own accompanist. Either way is fine. These recordings may not be enhanced in any way, or the submission will be disqualified.
• Singers should not identify themselves in any way on the recording itself, in order to ensure a blind audition. All relevant information should be included on the application form only.
• Auditions must be submitted in mp3 format. All other formats (.wav, .aiff, recordings from iPhones through Voice Memos, etc.) can be converted using the website media.io (or just Google “mp3 converter”).
• Please label the file only with the voice part and the singer’s initials (i.e. “Tenor 1 JN.mp3”) and submit on the online form.

Financial Obligations

• There is a $10 audition fee for all singers who submit an audition. The fee can be paid via PayPal at the time of the application submission.
• There is an additional $40 registration fee for singers who are accepted. This fee includes the music packet, which will be mailed to singers individually. This fee can be paid through check made payable to ACDA Utah and mailed along with the registration form to:

ACDA Policies

• Singers must be sponsored by an ACDA member and be in grades 6-12.
• Singers must attend all rehearsals and the performance.
• Singers must learn their Honor Choir music before arriving on site.
• Singers will abide by their school’s dress code and code of conduct. Alcohol, illegal drugs, and smoking will be grounds for immediate dismissal from Honor Choir.
• Singers will be chaperoned during rehearsal and concert times only. At all other times, they will be under the supervision of their chaperones/parents. Chaperones/parents will also be responsible for transportation to and from rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and concerts.
• Submission of an audition is implicit agreement to abide by ACDA policies.

Timeline

• Audition submissions and fee submitted by September 9, 2016
• Notification of acceptance by September 23, 2016
• Registration fee and forms due by October 5, 2016 (music will be mailed when forms and fees are received)
• October 21-22, 2016: Honor Choir

Rehearsal Schedule**

• Friday, October 21: 5-8 pm at the University of Utah School of Music David Gardner Hall room 270
• Saturday, October 22, 2016: 8-11 am, 12:30-3:30 pm University of Utah School of Music David Gardner Hall room 270
• Saturday, October 22, 2016: 5:30 pm dress rehearsal and 7 pm concert at Libby Gardner Concert Hall at the University of Utah
