December Choir Notes

Important Dates:
  • Thursday, December 1: Meet at 4:00 p.m. in the choir room.  Bus leaves from the flag pole at 4:15 p.m.  All choirs perform at the JSMB at 5:00 p.m.  From there, Madrigals and Concert Choir will go to the Assembly Hall warm-up room in the basement of the Assembly Hall and perform at 6:30 p.m.  Men's and Women's Choir members can go do their concert report in the North Visitor's Center where East High School will be performing from 6:00-6:45 p.m.  Then, they can stay and watch part of Cyprus' performance in the North Visitor's Center or come to the Assembly Hall and watch the rest of HHS's performance.  They need to watch an hour total of performance time.
  • Monday, December 12: This is our caroling social hosted by the HHS Choir Council.  It is from 6:00-7:30 p.m. We meet in the choir room and then break in to groups to carol in the neighborhood. After, we have hot cocoa and treats in the choir room. This is a great opportunity to do your "Sing to Serve" assignment (see important assignments below). It is not required. Casual (warm) Dress. Council provides the hot cocoa and we ask everyone to bring yummy treats to share!
  • Thursday, December 15: This is our big term holiday concert! Call time for students will be 6:00 p.m. and the concert will be at 7:00 p.m. The concert is free for all to enjoy. Concert Dress. 100 points!
  • Wednesday, December 21: This is the band/orchestra concert.  We are combining on at least 3 numbers with the band and orchestra this season.  The orchestra is coming to our concert on December 15, so we are joining them on theirs as well.  I am requiring this for Concert Choir and Madrigals (20 points) because they have the most music combined with the orchestra.  We would love for Women's and Men's Choir members to join us as well on our final combined song, but it's not required.  Concert Dress. Choirs get their term 2 concert report here!
Important Assignments:

  • Sing to Serve: Instead of an in-class performance, students are required to do a musical service project by singing for people in the community.  They can use the caroling social as their service project if they would like.  After, the need to write a 1 page paper about their experience. This is due the last day before the holiday break (December 23).
  • Concert Report: Take advantage of the opportunities to get your CR done either at Temple Square (Men's and Women's choirs) or the band concert (Concert Choir).
  • Concerts: I must know at least 3 weeks in advance if a student will be missing any of the performances in December.  For Men's and Women's Choirs, that's December 1st and December 15th.  For Concert Choir, that's December 1st, 15th, and 21st.  Madrigals received a separate calendar with the schedule of all their performances.  Those who cannot attend for legitimate reasons excused by me three weeks in advance will be given alternate assignments.
Choir Council Secret Santa Activity:
  • Students  will draw names this week in their classes for Secret Santa. This is OPTIONAL and just for fun!  We told the kids to spend no more than $5 TOTAL on their Secret Santa Gifts.  We have three days designated as "drop off days" (the first choir class day of each week).  We want kids to be creative, have fun,  and not worry about spending a bunch of money.  We will reveal each person's Secret Santa the last couple days before break.
