Madrigals Contract
2017-2018
Grades:
Madrigals is a demanding class, and it
takes organization and effort to balance choir responsibilities with other
studies. Madrigals are required to maintain a 2.0 GPA and no more than one F
throughout the school year. If a student gets below a 2.0 and/or has more than
one ‘F’ on the term 1, term 2, or term 3 report cards, he/she will be immediately transferred out of
Madrigals before the start of the new term. He/she is welcome to join another
choir class if desired.
Class
Attendance:
Attendance as a member of the HHS
Madrigals is critical. It affects the group significantly when even one member
is absent. After three absences in a
term (that's 4.5 hours of rehearsal time), Madrigals will be put on probation.
After 5 absences in a term, the student will be asked to leave Madrigals at the
end of the quarter. Students are ALWAYS welcome to sing in the Concert Choir instead
where the commitment is less rigorous.
Behavior:
My
expectations for madrigals are very high.
With the caliber of performance I expect from Madrigals, I have zero
tolerance for wasted rehearsal time. If
a student plans on spending rehearsal time on his/her phone, doing homework, or
having conversation with other students, this is not the appropriate class
placement for him/her. If a student is
unable to maintain our rehearsal standards, he/she will be put on probation. If
the problem persists, he/she will be asked to leave the choir. This could
happen at any point during the term.
Probation:
Students
will be notified immediately if they are put on Madrigals probation. I will
send an email to both the student and parent with a contract to sign indicating
that he/she understands the reason for probation and that he/she will be
removed from choir if the problem doesn’t change.
