Choir Lists 2017-2018

Before reviewing these choir lists, please know that this has been one of the most difficult years I've had putting together my choirs.  This has been hanging over my head for a long time. I want to say a few things to help students understand, as I know there may be some disappointment.

This year, I had an unusual number of extremely talented freshman who will be sophomores next year.  Seven girls scored within 1.5 points of each other on their audition.  I also had unusually low enrollment from the middle schools.  Due to my numbers across the choirs (I need 20 students to run one class) I could not take 7 freshman women in to concert choir. At best, I could take 1 or 2, but their scores were too close to make a decision among them. I know it's unfair that so many freshman boys get to be in Concert Choir- the women are equally talented; unfortunately, without them, I don't have an SATB Concert Choir.  On the other hand, I have lots of qualified women who auditioned for Concert Choir who will be juniors and seniors. My preference is for Concert Choir to be juniors and seniors only, but we don't have that option when it comes to men.

All that being said, we still have several months until school begins in the fall. Auditions have to happen MUCH earlier than I would prefer because of registration. If I can get more incoming freshman on board in the next couple months,  I can open a few more CC spots than I could right now and hold a re-audition in May for freshman girls who will be sophomores next year.  I know many of you have friends at Hillside, and I would love for you to do some recruiting!

Whether or not we are able to open more concert choir spots, a select Advanced Women's Choir is such a fun experience- it's often one of the classes I look forward to the most each day because we are able to work on more difficult music in a quicker amount of time and we get to have a lot of fun bonding! I know some of you freshman made it in to the Advanced Women's choir last year, but we had to combine the classes and turn it in to a non-auditioned Women's Choir. Next year, we actually get to have the Advanced Women's Choir experience together!

If you auditioned and your name accidentally got left off one of these lists, PLEASE COME SEE ME, because that was a mistake!Similarly, if you were NOT planning on taking choir and your name ended up on a list, PLEASE SEE ME ASAP!
