November Choir Notes

NOVEMBER CHOIR NOTES

Important November Choir Dates:

• 9-5 the Musical opens on November 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the HHS Auditorium.  There are two performances on Saturday, November 4 at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and performances on Monday and Tuesday nights, November 6-7, at 7:00 p.m.  Students can use this for their term 2 performance observation.  If students buy tickets in advance at lunch, it's only $7 with a student ID.  We have many choir students participating! 
• Tuesday, November 14th: Dr. Keeton from the U of U is coming during class to do a workshop Concert Choir and Madrigals.
• Wednesday, November 15th- En Chantant will be heading to the district office during class to perform from about 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.  Parents welcome to come watch.

Important December Choir Dates (Madrigals performance calendar will be given separately):

• Friday, December 1st: Buses leaves at 3:00 p.m. to take all choir students to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building on Temple square. Performance begins at 4:00 p.m. and goes until 4:45 p.m.  En Chantant, Concert Choir, and Madrigals will then perform at the Assembly Hall on Temple Square at 5:30 p.m.  Mixed Ensemble will watch (we are limited in the number of students who can perform in that venue) and can use this as their performance observation for term 2.  The buses will arrive back at HHS around 7:00 p.m.  
• If your child will not be riding the bus both ways, please either email me or click the link below and fill out the information by Friday, November 10th so I can make sure to order the right number of buses and get the proper paperwork to students planning to drive themselves.  (Madrigals will have separate driving forms and do not need to click on this link. They are also welcome to ride the bus to and from this performance.)

• Thursday, December 14th: Concert Choir and Madrigals will be performing portions of the Schubert Mass in G Major on the Orchestra Concert at 7:30 p.m. Call time is 7:00 p.m.
• Monday, December 18th: This is our annual choir council caroling social. It is not mandatory, but students who attend may use this for their "Sing to Serve" assignment due on December 22nd.  It will begin at 5:30 p.m. and be over by 7:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, December 20th: This is our term 2 holiday concert at 7:00 p.m. Call time for students is 6:15 p.m. in the choir room.

Assignments:

• During term 2, we do a "Sing to Serve" assignment worth 50 points in lieu of an in-class performance. Students must use music to serve in the community and write a 1 page paper about it. Details will be given to the kids in class. This is due December 22nd.

WINNERS:

• Our top two sellers for dessert tickets were Angel Oluwalana and Josh Hatch.  Concert Choir was the top selling class. 
• En Chantant won the class competition for term 1. 
•  Nisi, Alex D., and Heidi S. won music trivia contests this term.
