My name is Kristen Lenth and I have recently moved to the Salt Lake City area. I come here after teaching voice full-time at Casper College in Casper, WY for the past nine years. I hold a bachelor’s degree in voice performance from Ithaca College and a master’s degree in voice performance from Indiana University. I also did postgraduate study at the University of Northern Colorado. I have extensive performance experience in opera, musical theater, and choral music, as well as performing as a soloist in orchestral works and solo and chamber recitals. This season I will be performing in several operas with the Utah Opera Chorus. I also recently joined the voice faculty of Utah State University and will be teaching there part-time.
Previous students have attended prestigious institutions of higher education and competed in local, regional, and national voice competitions. Through my teaching at Casper College, I had the opportunity to work with many high school students. I had numerous students accepted to excellent college music programs, as well as students who did not major in music but received musical activity scholarships. I have former students who have gone on to performing careers in opera, theater, and television.
I have experience working with many different types of people, including students with physical impediments, learning disabilities, students on the autism spectrum, and students in gender transition. I am also a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and have held leadership positions in MTNA.
My goal as a voice teacher is to treat each student individually and help them achieve their musical aspirations, whatever they may be. My teaching style is flexible with an emphasis on healthy vocal technique, body awareness, and artistry. I strongly believe that classical vocal technique is invaluable to any style of vocal performance.
I will be offering private voice instruction, and I am also available if I can be of any assistance to you with your students! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or refer any students interested in voice lessons.
