September Choir Notes
Important September Dates:
- Saturday, September 8th is the mattress fundraiser for our California tour from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in the cafeteria. Please, please, please share the flyer (link on the blog- look two entries below this one!) with friends and family via text or email. Also, please share the Facebook event. We would love to get 100 RSVP's on FB! Instagram is another great way to get the word out.
- September 24- September 27 are in-class performances. Parents are welcome to watch their kid perform during their class period if the student allows it! :-)
Looking to the future!
- Friday, October 12 during 2nd lunch or after school are auditions for the poetry recitations for the concert. Please come ready to recite one of the poems from your class's concert set.
- Tuesday, October 23rd is our annual dessert fundraiser (this is a department fundraiser, not one for tour) and concert from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at HHS. Each year in October, we sell desserts donated by families from 6:00-6:50 p.m. for guests to enjoy before the concert. We then move to the auditorium for our concert at 7:00 p.m. I will be looking for parents to head up the desserts and decorations. If you're interested in helping, please email me. The parent help absolutely saves me! The theme this year is, "The Sweet Sounds of Poetry."
- Friday, October 26th is the American Choral Directors of America Utah conference, "Utah Sings!" and En Chantant was invited to perform. It will be at the Waterford School at 7:30 p.m. Ticket info to come.
- Ladies, if you are ordering a new dress, you can no longer pay online. Payments need to be made to West in the treasurer's office. En Chantant dresses are $30, Concert Choir dresses are $69, and Madrigals dresses are $71. En Chantant ladies must wear black close toed flats. I have to order these dresses by the end of this week at the very latest. Ram SA Choir, you need black slacks or a black skirt (must reach to at least the top of the knee cap or longer) and a white short sleeved blouse.
- Men in Concert Choir and Madrigals, you need your black suit pants, suit coat, black shoes, and white dress shirt by the concert on October 23rd. Madrigals also need a black bowtie. I will be purchasing the Concert Choir black ties and the Ram TB white ties to check out to students. Ram TB Choir needs black pants and a black collared shirt. All men need completely black shoes (CC and Mads shoes must be dress shoes).
- Students need to see one performing arts concert/recital/play each term. It can be vocal, dance, theatre, or instrumental. It can be anywhere in the community or here at HHS. I highly encourage students to see other performing arts performances at Highland High. I will give students a paper with dates of lots of free HHS performances, along with a paper to fill out after watching the show. Students will turn this in along with a program, ticket, and/or selfie by the last day of the term. Students may not count a performance they are in!
Choir Tour:
- This is a CHANGE from what I said at the parent meeting! We are going to charge a $100 deposit for tour (instead of $180) that will reserve a spot on tour. This must be paid or waived anytime between this evening and September 23rd either online (for credit card payment) or in person (for waiver or check/cash). After we know how much we raised this Saturday and how many kids are going on tour based on the number of deposits we receive, we will figure out the price of the rest of the payments and will send out a revised payment schedule (the due dates will remain the same).
- We decided to do one day in Disneyland and do one day at the beach instead of two days at Disneyland, which reduces the overall cost of the tour by about $50 per person. Stay tuned for more info on the itinerary!
- People have asked if kids in Ram TB Choir and Ram SA Choir are allowed to go on tour. I will let kids in the non-auditioned choirs go on tour on a case by case basis, based on how well they can learn the tour music on their own. We will not be working on the tour music in the non-auditioned choir classes. Please come see me if you're interested in tour and you're in a non-auditioned choir.
- PLEASE REMEMBER THERE IS A STRICT GRADE REQUIRMENT FOR TOUR! You must have at least a 2.0 and no more than one 'F' on your term 3 report card! If you do not meet this grade requirement, you won't be allowed to go. You'll need to sell your spot.
